Kate Gilmore agerar som den enda protagonisten in sina performativa videoverk, där hon försöker övervinna hinder som hon byggt upp för sig själv. Hennes videoverk utforskar förskjutningar, kamp och kvinnlig identitet, formmässigt sofistikerat och med metamorfiskt djup. I Gilmores tragikomiska verk fungerar konstruerade fysiska situationer som en metafor för samtida konflikter och sociala hinder. – Margot Norton
Kate Gilmore är född 1975 i Washington DC och bor och arbetar i New York. Hon medverkar i Whitneybiennalen 2010. Tidigare soloutställningar inkluderar ”Walk the Walk” ett performanceverk i Bryant Park i samarbete med Public Art Fund, Franco Soffiantino i Turin, Italien, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Smith-Stewart Gallery, New York och Artspace, San Antonio, Texas.
Utställningen på CRYSTAL är den första presentationen av Kate Gilmores arbete i Sverige.

Kate Gilmore is sole protagonist in her performative videos as she attempts to conquer self-constructed obstacles. Her videos explore issues of displacement, struggles and female identity with metamorphic depth and formal sophistication. Gilmore’s tragicomic displays posit physical situations as metaphor for present-day conflicts and social obstacles.” - Margot Norton
Kate Gilmore is born 1975 in Washington DC and lives and works in New York. She participated in the 2010 Whitney Biennial. Solo shows include “Walk the Walk” a performance piece in Bryant Park, NYC in collaboration with Public Art Fund, Franco Soffiantino Arte Contemporanea, Turin, Italy, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia, Smith-Stewart Gallery, New York and Artspace, San Antonio Texas.
The solo show at Crystal is the first presentation of Kate Gilmores work in Sweden.
